Welcome to The Best Me Programs

The Best Me Programs, founded by Gillian Garcia, an established entrepreneur and business owner in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn is a community-based organization focused on the development of young women.  Ms. Garcia envisaged The Best Me Programs while pondering avenues to donate her time to her community.  She realized that today’s youths are in need of love, motivation and guidance. As a result, The Best Me Programs was born!
 
The program is designed to EDUCATE, EMPOWER and ENCOURAGE young women to be their best. The program shares information on finance, self-esteem, hair care, skin care and make-up. The Best Me Programs plants seeds of beauty and self-worth in the lives of female adolescents, so they can mature into confident young women.  (It was discovered during the course of the first sessions that many of the young women struggled with self-esteem concerns). Accordingly, one of my mottos for the program is “LOOK GOOD = FEEL GOOD”! The lesson plans for future sessions have been revamped to include discussion and informational sessions for young women who struggle in this area.

Since its inception, The Best Me Programs has engaged female adolescents, ages 13-18, in multiple activities centered on improving their mind and spirit while tapping into their creativity and simultaneously teaching life skills. Research has shown that programs like this that enable young women to develop an understanding of their potential, so that they can become exceptional human beings are desperately needed in many urban and rural communities throughout the United States.

 

The Best Me Programs opened its doors in August of 2006 and the first year was a proven success. During week one, 19 out of 32 young women were in attendance. The attendees quickly increased by week two to 25 young women in attendance. The program reached its climatic end when 33 young women attended the final week of the program.

 
The Best Me Programs and its volunteers look forward to a limitless future filled with many more milestones, successes, changes and imminent growth.  With God in the forefront, we know that today’s blessings will inspire future successes.
